Pulsed Xenon Irradiation Device

For food processing and packaging

We have developed a low-cost, space-saving pulsed xenon irradiation device that helps improve sanitation in food and beverage processing while supporting HACCP compliance. The device was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under 21 CFR Part 179 for food irradiation in 1996.

Characteristics

  • It has enabled high level sterilization (especially effective for molds) in a short time (immediate). Also it's instantaneous so it has less oxidation deterioration to the object.
  • Compact and space saving (Easy to mount).
  • Doesn't require shutter mechanism to shut down the irradiation due to the Instant and stable lighting
  • Less heat effect on working object
  • No metals such as mercury in the lamp so it's easy on the environment and safe.

Use Examples

  • Caps, can lids, dessert containers, petri dishes, cups, etc.
  • Packaging film
  • Foods such as rice cakes, bread, and eggs
Example: Plastic bottle cap sterilization (irradiation with 1 to 3 lamps)

Use Examples by Light Energy

Example of sterilization effect

Target bacteria
Bacillus subtilis (Spores)
Initial number of bacteria
1.5 × 10³CFU
Distance from the window surface Charging energy Number of pulsed lights
1 pulse 2 pulses
20mm 80J 99.9% 99.9%以上
120J 99.9%以上 99.9%以上
70mm 80J 96.2% 99.1%
120J 99.9%以上 99.9%以上
  • * This is an experiment result of a flat light distribution type irradiator.
  • * It is also possible to obtain a higher sterilization effect by controlling the light distribution according to the shape of the working object.
