Iwasaki UV Lamps Demonstrate Effectiveness in Inactivating SARS-CoV-2

Iwasaki Electric conducted a joint evaluation study with Professor Hiroki Ohge of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Hiroshima University Hospital, and Professor Takemasa Sakaguchi of the Laboratory of Virology, Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, to assess the effectiveness of UV lamps used in Iwasaki products against SARS-CoV-2 (the virus responsible for COVID-19). The study confirmed a high level of virus inactivation performance.

As part of ongoing efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Iwasaki Electric continues to provide safe and reliable environmental hygiene solutions through UV-based air, surface, and water disinfection technologies.

Test Method

A virus suspension was applied to plastic Petri dishes and allowed to dry. After exposure to ultraviolet radiation from each UV lamp, the recovered virus infectivity was measured using the TCID50 assay.

Test Results

Both UV lamps (① and ②) achieved greater than 99.9% inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 at a UV dose of 3 mJ/cm².
