Installation date

March, 2024

Maioka Hachimanyama Nature Park is an all-purpose site managed by the city of Yokohama, where following on from the opening of its East Plaza in 2022, completion of works on the new Uchikoshi Square saw it opened to the public in March 2024. It is anticipated that the multipurpose space of Uchikoshi Square which covers approximately 0.3 hectares will be used mainly for practicing ball games such as baseball, soccer, and ground golf; plans for further developments are also in place, with a vast and expanded park area of approximately 12.7 hectares to include a skateboarding area, playground, grass area and allotments, scheduled to open in 2027.

Light pollution countermeasures to prevent light spillage beyond the grounds were a crucial consideration in planning the lighting arrangement at Uchikoshi Square, with its location adjacent to a residential area and surrounding lush green forest environment which is home to a variety of wildlife. A desire to also reduce the number of installed lighting fixtures by as many units as possible led to the selection of LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 400 floodlights, delivering a high quality lighting environment whilst restricting light spillage into the sky and surrounding areas. With the presence of a protective net installed around the perimeter, the fixtures have been attached to the concrete pillars that secure it, delivering design illuminance in line with JIS (Japan Industrial Standards) Class III athletic lighting standards for softball (200ℓx infield, 100ℓx outfield).

Combining the high efficiency and high color rendering properties provided by the LED lighting with effective light pollution countermeasures and glare reduction techniques, the field is brightly illuminated to provide a comfortable playing environment even by night, whilst also promoting energy conservation.
