Featuring facilities including a sports field, baseball ground, tennis courts and indoor Gateball course, the well-equipped Iizuna Town Fureai Park acts as a sporting hub for the local community, and it is widely enjoyed and appreciated by a large number of users. Its sports field is furnished with lighting equipment and is used for a wide variety of purposes day and night.

Seeking to reduce its CO₂ emissions and promote energy saving measures, the Town of Iizuna carried out improvement works to update the exterior lighting at the site to LED with the aid of grants from the Sports Promotion Lottery run by the Japan Sport Council. The works which spanned six lighting masts saw the installation of high-efficiency LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 700 floodlights to replace the existing metal halide floodlights. Producing light output levels matching those of 1500W metal halide lamps, the new luminaires deliver both high quality light and energy savings as they provide a bright and comfortable lit environment for the field - and with the scheme designed to a cross-aiming layout, glare has also been minimized.

Following the update to LED, the lighting continues to enjoy positive feedback from users, with many commenting on the increased light levels and ease of use. Furthermore with the capacity for LED lighting to be switched on and off instantly, the user friendly properties and energy saving benefits of the new installation have led to it being rated highly both by those who use it and those who maintain it.
