March, 2025

Founded in 1957, Narashino High School is a public high school with a long tradition of valuing both academic and sporting excellence. On the academic front, the school provides a comprehensive curriculum aimed at harnessing and improving the academic abilities of students through general or vocational courses; on the sporting front the school is home to a renowned baseball team which has twice been crowned winners of the Koshien national high school tournament, as well as a soccer team and a brass band who have also enjoyed successes at a national level.

Primarily used as a practice ground for its baseball team, the No.2 Ground at Narashino High School spans 98m along both outfields and 122m along the center field, and in March 2025 renovation works were carried out to convert its lighting installation to LED.

Whilst retaining and reusing the four existing lighting towers in place, high-efficiency LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 700 floodlights were installed to replace the existing HID light fixtures, and with the floodlights delivering levels of brightness on a par with the previously installed 1500W metal halide lamps, they are contributing to energy savings in addition to maintaining existing illuminance levels. Whilst the need to design the lighting scheme around the four existing lighting towers provided a challenge in terms of achieving high levels of uniformity, the resulting scheme fulfils the requirements of JIS lighting standards for baseball at Level III (infield 500ℓx, outfield 300ℓx), allowing team members to focus on practice in greater comfort. Furthermore the scheme is also designed with sensitivity to the avoidance of light spillage into neighboring facilities.
