about

Installation date

June, 2017

Completed in May of 1987 as a Hamamatsu Shinkin Bank welfare program facility, Hamashin Recreation Center is a is a sports facility that includes a baseball field, a track and field arena, and tennis courts. Since 2006 it has been open to the public as a multipurpose sports and welfare program facility able to be used by anybody. In June 2017, work was carried out to change the night-game lighting for the various facilities to LED from the viewpoint of promoting power and maintenance savings. As the positioning of the existing lighting for the baseball field and tennis courts was appropriate, just the lamps were changed to LED, with the same number of high-output 560W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL LED floodlights being installed in place of the existing 1000W metal halide lamps at the baseball field, which is used for rubber ball baseball and softball. By switching to the 560W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL LED lights, which have a brightness equivalent to 1000W metal halide lamps, a 124% increase in brightness was achieved, along with a 53% reduction in power usage and CO2 emissions. 310W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL LED lights, which have a brightness equivalent to 700W metal halide lamps, have been installed for the 3 artificial-turf tennis courts, ensuring an average brightness of 200ℓx. With the change to LED for the night-game lighting, there was some concern regarding glare from the strongly directional LED lights; however, the concern was unfounded, with feedback after the installation from the members of the baseball and tennis clubs being positive regarding brightness and ease of play. The consensus is that this change to LED lighting has provided an improvement in the night-game lighting environment along with power savings and reductions in power consumption.
