A lighting plan taking into account the environment and power savings for a University blessed with a richly green environment and boasting a full range of facilities
Add to My ListSurugadai University is a humanities/social sciences university with five undergraduate departments (Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of Media and Information Resources, Faculty of Contemporary Cultures, and Faculty of Psychology) and graduate school Master's courses (Integrated Policy, Psychology). In March of this year, as part of the project for the 30th anniversary since its establishment, Surugadai University renovated its baseball ground and installed a multipurpose sports ground. The baseball ground saw the installation of new dugouts, and in conjunction with improvements to the entire surface including a change to artificial turf, improvements to the nightgame lighting equipment were also carried out, whereby highoutput LEDioc FLOOD DUELL LED floodlights, which feature high performance, a long operating life, and the ability to be turned on instantaneously, were installed. 8-light and 4-light lighting stands have been installed in locations close to the first and third bases. By lighting the infield with LED lighting, and re-using existing floodlights with 1000W EYE Multi Metal lamps in place of the old lamps/stabilizers, a bright and comfortable light-game lighting environment has been created. For the multipurpose sports ground with its all-surface artificialturf installed as a competition practice location for soccer, rugby, handball, and futsal, 2-light lighting stands for LEDioc FLOOD DUELL lights have been installed in 4 locations, improving brightness and creating a pleasant and highly uniform visual environment. There are no surrounding residential areas nearby, and given that the environment enables practice until late at both the baseball ground and the multipurpose sports ground, the facility is used quite frequently. Feedback since the renovations and change to LED lighting has been positive, with the students commenting on how much brighter it has become. As part of its promotion of power savings, Surugadai University has been steadily proceeding with maintenance changing the oncampus outdoor lighting to LED lights for roughly the past 2 years, with the full upgrade to LED lighting planned to take 4-5 years in total. This time, the change to LED lighting centered on the outdoor lights installed for the outer road around the bus rotary and the student parking area. Pole-lights were selected for locations facing the road, so that there would be no glare troubling drivers of cars and buses, with three kinds of LED pole-lights arranged depending on their location, including pole-lights that illuminate the entire area installed alongside buildings. Powersaving LED light now safely and comfortably lights the university premises at night.
