Akita Prefectural Budoukan Large DojoAkita City, Akita Prefecture
Renovations complete with high-output and high-power LED lighting, maintaining sufficient brightness while achieving large-scale power savings
Add to My ListAkita Prefectural Budoukan is a prefectural Budoukan (martial arts hall) with a full range of facilities, including a large dojo, a small dojo, and dojos for Kendo (Japanese sword fighting), Judo, Kyudo (Japanese archery), and Sumo wrestling. In October of 2016, Akita Prefecture carried out renovation work to change the lighting for the large dojo to LED. The large dojo has an area of 2356m² (62m×38m), seating for 2510 spectators, and allows for eight official competition areas each for both Judo and Kendo. The facility is also widely used for a variety of events and large-scale gatherings that do not involve martial arts. Due to the roughly 18m-high ceiling, the previous lighting equipment was an installation of 216 units of 1000W metal halide ceiling lamps with a design brightness of 1500ℓx or greater and a brightness uniformity of 0.5 or greater, but the current renovations saw the installation of 144 units of 380W LEDioc HIGH-BAY DUELL LED high ceiling lighting fixtures. An average brightness greater than or equal to the previous one has been ensured while also achieving energy savings of roughly 77%. With a color temperature of 5000K, a refreshing space with an average color rendering index of Ra70 has been created. Furthermore, lighting control that enables lighting formats including full, 1/2, and 1/3 patterns to match different kinds of use promote further power savings and create a pleasant lighting environment that can handle a wide range of applications.
