Showa Denko Martial Arts Sports Facility (Oita Prefectural Martial Arts Sports Center)Oita City, Oita Prefecture
Lighting enabling flexible lighting patterns creates a high-quality lighting environment at a dignified sports facility enveloped in the scent of wood
Add to My ListShowa Denko Martial Arts Sports Facility (Oita Prefectural Martial Arts Sports Center) is a martial arts sports center that was completed in April 2019 in Oita Sports Park. The 3-storey reinforced concrete building is partially constructed from steel and wood, and boasts a building area of 14551.68m² and total floor space of 16125.56m². In addition to its 3570m² multi-purpose stadium with space for 8 martial arts competition areas, and 2410m² dedicated martial arts hall with space for 3 martial arts dojos, it also has a full range of facilities including training rooms and meeting rooms. The ceiling of the facility has a wooden arch-truss structure, and the roof frame has one of the largest spans (approx. 70m) in Japan. It uses solid natural cedar grown in the prefecture as its structural components to make for a large yet warmly welcoming space.
With respect to lighting equipment, based on the basic philosophy of making the facility a base for indoor sports that can also host large-scale competitions, and in order to satisfy the standards for holding international competitions, the lighting design set a maximum brightness of 1500ℓx for the multi-purpose stadium (where various competitions, including those for volleyball, basketball and badminton, are held in addition to those for martial arts), and a maximum brightness of 1000ℓx for the martial arts hall. The lighting fixtures for the multi-purpose stadium use 320W LEDioc HIGH-BAY α (medium-angle) LED high ceiling lighting fixtures. A FIT LC wireless individual dimmer lighting control system enables control of even a single lighting fixture, which in turn makes it easy to set a variety of lighting patterns, from full- to recreation-level lighting, via a tablet, depending on the area's intended use, and this super ease-of-use and flexible operation has been well received. For the lighting fixtures that illuminate the martial arts hall, 320W LEDioc HIGH-BAY α (wide-angle) lights have been installed alongside 560W type LEDioc FLOOD DUELL lights, creating a good lighting environment with a high degree of uniformity.
The facility is adjacent to Oita Stadium (Showa Denko Dome Oita), which is one of the venues for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and is expected to be used as the AD Center and volunteer waiting rooms for the duration of the competition.
