Located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, the long, slender site of Sotobori Park runs alongside a canal for around 2km from the area by JR Iidabashi Station to the south side of Yotsuya Station. A nationally designated heritage site, the outer moat of the Edo era castle once situated there has been maintained to retain its original guise, and materials from its banks as well as further remnants of the moat were also utilized in the construction of the park. Well-known as a Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spot, in the spring it is also a destination often bustling with visitors who come to enjoy the blossoms in full bloom. To the west of Yotsuya Station is the Sotobori Park Athletics Ground, furnished with a number of sporting facilities including tennis courts and a baseball ground complete with lighting installation and spectator seating.

A program of renovation and maintenance works carried out at the park in March 2023 by the Ward of Chiyoda saw the laying of artificial turf at the baseball ground in addition to an update of its lighting to LED, and the ensuing expansion in the availability of the ground to being a venue for year-round use has seen other sports and activities in addition to baseball - such as futsal and soccer - now also being hosted there. Delivering illuminance levels matching those of the existing scheme, compact and highly efficient DALI-compatible LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 400 floodlights were selected for the scheme, mindful also of controlling and restricting light spillage into neighboring areas. The installations both at the tennis courts and the baseball ground are designed to allow for the luminaires to be individually controlled, and incorporating the ITACS-LC lighting controls system together with the ITACS CONNECTY wireless extension unit has not only negated the need to lay cables and wires around the outer periphery, but also presented the capacity to operate the luminaires to meet different needs and requirements with flexibility.

Already popular as an outdoor sporting venue in the heart of the city, its suitability for year-round use now has seen a further increase in the number of people making bookings to use it, while the newly updated LED lighting continues to enjoy positive feedback, with many commenting that the facilities have become brighter and even more accommodating.
