Location

Situated close to the central district of Tokorozawa City, the Tokorozawa Sports Complex features amongst other things a baseball and softball field complete with sports lighting which spans 91m at right and left field and 105m at center field, and four sand-containing artificial turf tennis courts; benefitting also from the adjacent Tokorozawa Municipal Gymnasium, the site offers an extensive array of sporting facilities.

With a view towards energy savings and a reduction of CO₂ emissions, works to update the lighting equipment for the baseball field and tennis courts - as well as the parking area – to LED were carried out at the site in February 2022. Offering illumination levels equivalent to 1000W metal halide lamps, high-efficiency LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 400 floodlights were selected to replace the existing HID (mercury vapor lamps) floodlights for the baseball field and tennis courts, creating a comfortable lit environment whilst also achieving significant energy savings. Also used as a public recreational area on weekdays and as a venue for competitions and tournaments organized by schools and associations at weekends, the widely enjoyed facilities have received much positive feedback since the lighting upgrades, with users noting how it had become brighter and more accessible.

As LED lighting can be switched on and off and achieve full brightness instantaneously, they offer simplicity of use both from a maintenance perspective and users' perspective, with the energy savings that they offer also being highly valued. LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 400 floodlights have also been installed to illuminate the multi-storey car park and the internal roads on-site, maintaining the same illuminance levels through a reduced number of installed units vis-a-vis the existing scheme and creating an enhanced sense of security at night.
