  • Panoramic view of the baseball field. Colors are reproduced faithfully and naturally thanks to the high color rendering (Ra80) CCT 5000K light of LEDioc FLOOD ZEST floodlights, with an illumination level of 855ℓx in the infield area at full output.

  • Illuminating the grounds with high efficiency, high color-rendering LEDioc FLOOD ZEST floodlights, the batting practice areas also benefit from ample illumination.

  • With a glare-suppressing light distribution amongst its key features, the whole ground is illuminated under the light of LEDioc FLOOD ZEST, producing a lighting environment with excellent uniformity.

  • The existing light towers and stands have been retained and reused for the installation of LEDioc FLOOD ZEST units.

  • Through a combination of the ITACS-LC lighting control system located in the central monitoring room in Campus Building No.2, and the ITACS CONNECTY wireless extension units installed on the roof of the same building as well as at each facility, the lighting for the baseball field, the rugby pitch, and the soccer pitch can all be controlled remotely over a wireless network.

Since its foundation in 1891, the prestigious Nippon Sports Science University enjoys a rich history of producing a plethora of Olympians and other elite athletes, coaches and managers, and sports scientists. The University boasts sporting sites and facilities amongst the finest in the country, and the Yokohama Kenshidai Campus which is situated within vast green grounds spanning approximately 17000m² in the Aoba Ward of Yokohama City is home to an extensive array of such facilities, including sports hall, an athletics stadium, a gymnastics stadium, a swimming pool, a rugby pitch, a soccer pitch, a baseball field, and tennis courts.

Seeking to reduce the high electricity and maintenance costs associated with the running of such a large-scale site, the University is progressing with the modernization of all outdoor sports facility lighting to LED; following the lighting improvement works carried out on the rugby and soccer pitches in 2019, the latest project saw an upgrade to LED lighting for the home field of the baseball club, which has continued to produce several professional baseball players since its founding in 1952. Retaining and re-using the existing light towers and stands, illumination levels equal to and above the previous scheme have been maintained with the luminaires updated to high efficiency, high color rendering LEDioc FLOOD ZEST class 500 floodlights.

The lighting is managed remotely through a combination of the existing ITACS-LC lighting control system and the wireless extension unit ITACS CONNECTY, allowing for the differing requirements of official matches, practice matches, and training, to be satisfied; furthermore the system now offers the capacity to monitor illumination status, and in the unlikely event, product failures. The change to LED lighting and the remote control of them through wireless technologies has contributed to a significant reduction in energy costs, and an increase in the efficiency and productivity of maintenance works. With a variety of lighting configurations set for scenarios such as "normal practice" and "match conditions", the scheme has been designed to facilitate the effective matching of lighting environments to the given needs of the day.
