Brightness and safety through the light of LED, for a rail depot in the heart of the city
Add to My ListSituated within the vast premises of Shinagawa Station which spans an area of 421,988m², the Shinagawa Rail Depot of JR (Japan Rail) East is a facility where amongst others, E231, E233, E531 and E657 type train carriages operating on the JR Tokaido Line are held, with routine cleaning as well as inspection and maintenance works being conducted on them. Following a revision of how the carriages are operated, a process of reorganization saw the implementation of plans to slim down of the previously sprawling depot which was located between Shinagawa and Tamachi.
On the site of the former rail depot, the "Global Gateway" city development initiative aimed at urban redevelopment is in progress, with the opening of the Takanawa Gateway Station in March 2020 marking the first new station on the JR Yamanote Line in nearly half a century.
Upgrade works to change the lighting on site to energy saving LED lighting have continued to be implemented by JR East following the relocation of the Shinagawa Rail Depot in 2013, with the floodlight-form LED high bay luminaire LEDioc CEILING HB replacing the existing mercury vapor lighting. By using an LED luminaire with a flat light-emitting surface to minimize light pollution, a lighting environment that is both pleasant and energy saving has been achieved whilst also giving due care to glare avoidance in maintaining brightness levels matching the previous scheme.
