Installation date

March, 2021

Opened as a provisional two-lane route in March 2021, National Route 2, Kihara Road is a 3.8km carriageway which connects Fukuchi Town in Onomichi City to Itozaki 8th district in Mihara City, linking also with the Onomichi Bypass to the east and Mihara Bypass to the west. Following the major slowdowns that were previously experienced on the section of the concurrent National Highway Route 2 sandwiched between the aforementioned bypasses, it is anticipated that the dispersal of some traffic to the new Kihara Road can help to alleviate these congestion issues and bring about logistical improvements.

The LED tunnel lighting fixture LEDioc TUNNEL KAE Series has been chosen for the lighting of the two tunnels on Kihara Road (Uchibatake Tunnel: length 986m / Akaishi Tunnel: length 1216m), covering both the main tunnel lighting and the lighting at the mouths of the tunnels; adjustments between 3 predetermined output levels of 100%, 50% and 32% are carefully controlled to be appropriate to their installed positions.

With a long-lasting average LED module life of 90000 hours, the LED tunnel luminaires offer significant maintenance advantages in addition to safe, bright lighting for the tunnels of this new route which will serve to bring greater convenience of the area's residents.
