  • The No. 1 Tunnel on the outer lanes on National Route 298. It intersects with Sugano Station on the Keisei Electric Railway Main Line. The area around the tunnel entrance is brightly lit with LED light, making for a favorable lighting environment.

  • A view of the area near the entrance to the No. 1 Tunnel on the inner lanes.

  • The outer lanes in the No. 2 Tunnel have a merging section that connects with National Route 14 inside the tunnel.

  • The inner lanes in the No. 2 Tunnel, which enables drivers to merge from general roads. LEDioc TUNNEL lights brightly illuminate the merging section.

  • The inner lanes inside the No. 3 Tunnel. The tunnel interior is uniformly lit by LEDioc TUNNEL lights that have been installed in the ceiling panels.

  • The outer lanes inside the No. 3 Tunnel. By lighting the tunnel interior using LEDioc TUNNEL lights, road-surface brightness has been ensured while also emphasizing vertical-plane brightness, which increases safety when driving by encouraging following of the tunnel lines.

  • 1 unit of base lighting, and 2 units of entrance lighting, examples of LEDioc TUNNEL LED lighting fixtures for tunnel-use installed along the inner lanes.

  • The installed LEDioc TUNNEL entrance lighting fixtures, which contribute to power and maintenance savings with long-life LED modules that have operating lifespans of 90000 hours.

The Tokyo Outer Ring Road (Gaikan Expressway) is a main route that is part of the 3-ring, 9-radial road network, and has a total length of around 85km that connects regions a 15km radius away from the city center. With development now underway to mitigate traffic congestion in the metropolitan area and to facilitate a smooth traffic network between cities, the Chiba section of the Gaikan Expressway has been positioned as an important section that will lead to the alleviation of the chronic congestion on roads that provide access in the north and south directions, and the section between Misato-Minami IC and Koya JCT was opened on June 2, 2018. The sections opened were 15.5km of the expressway (Tokyo Gaikan Expressway), and 11.4km of National Route 298 from Kamiyakiri in Matsudo City to Koya in Ichikawa City.

The basic structure features a split-ditch layout with the expressway below and National Route 298 above it. The tunnel on the national highway (Sugano Tunnel), which intersects with Sugano Station on the Keisei Electric Railway Main Line is a series of three consecutive (No. 1, No. 2, No. 3) tunnels, and the No. 2 Tunnel has a structure with a merging section that connects with National Route 14 inside the tunnel.

For the lighting fixtures in each tunnel, LEDioc TUNNEL lighting fixtures for tunnel-use were installed for the base lighting, entrance lighting, and outside-pit lighting in order to safely light the tunnels and ensure the necessary brightness while also realizing power savings. Their long-life LED modules with operating lifespans of 90000 hours also contribute to maintenance savings, and the light from the LEDs lights the new road with the appropriate brightness, providing a safe and comfortable visual environment for the drivers.
