Kasamatsu Athletics Stadium is a track-and-field stadium located inside Kasamatsu Sports Park that has been accredited as Category 1 by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations. With a spacious area of roughly 56ha, the premises of Kasamatsu Sports Park include a full range of facilities, including, in addition to the stadium, an axillary field, an indoor swimming pool and ice-skating rink, a gymnasium, tennis courts, a ball- sports arena, a climbing zone, and a Japanese garden and various open spaces, and the park is open to the wider public as a place for sports and recreation. With the stadium set to be the main venue for the Iki-Iki Ibaraki Yume National Sports Festival to be held in 2019, and to host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as track-and-field events, work was carried out to extend the surface area of the roof and completely upgrade the ageing lighting equipment to LED floodlights. The 278×2kW short-arc metal halide lamp floodlights, 144×1.5kW metal halide lamp floodlights, and 24×safety lamps installed on the existing 4 lighting towers were upgraded to 278×1300W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL high-output LED floodlights and 18×380W LEDioc FLOOD BLITZ lights, while 29×1300W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL high-output LED floodlights and 13×830W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL high-output LED floodlights were newly installed on the roof section, achieving large-scale power savings while enabling a guaranteed minimum brightness of 1500ℓx for the ground surface.
