2023

Benefitting both from its verdant surroundings and the proximity of its convenient location to the heart of Sapporo City, the JRA (Japan Racing Association) Sapporo Racecourse provides visitors with an open environment where they can experience the intensity and power of the horses from up close; benefitting also from its refreshing climate, this key venue for summertime racing is a popular one brimming with the unique charms of Hokkaido. With the grounds being equipped with a variety of facilities including play areas for children, it is also a venue that can be enjoyed not only by horse racing fans but also by families, tourists, and a variety of other visitors alike.

In 2023 the JRA carried out a project to update the existing training use HID floodlights at the course to LED lighting, with high-efficiency, high-color-rendering LEDioc FLOOD ZEST floodlights mounted on lighting poles around the perimeter and on the roof of the grandstand now illuminating the dirt tracks where early morning training sessions take place.

The new floodlights have been installed in the same positions as the previous scheme, ensuring the illuminance levels along the dirt course whilst minimizing glare and any unevenness in light levels; through utilizing key features of the floodlights to reduce glare from the light-emitting surface, and effectively combining wide and medium beam angle models, the resulting lighting scene with high levels of uniformity is providing a training environment with improved visibility and safety.
