Hakodate RacecourseHakodate City, Hokkaido
At the racecourse on a picturesque northern land, LEDioc FLOOD ZEST creates a pleasing and energy-efficient lit environment for training horses
Add to My ListWith a history spanning further than any other current racecourse in Japan, Hakodate Racecourse is renowned for the proximity between spectators and horses that it offers, and is also known for being the only Japan Racing Association (JRA) affiliated course where spectators are able to glimpse the sea from the stands. Each year, an exhilarating race which marks the opening of the Hokkaido Series of summer races also sees large numbers of racing fans congregate upon the venue, making for a lively and bustling event. Running clockwise, the racecourse consists of a turf course on the outermost, a dirt track, and a training-use wood-chipped area on the innermost.
In May 2022 the JRA carried out works to update the lighting that was being used here for training purposes, with the existing HID installation replaced by LED floodlights. Used during early morning hours when training for the horses take place, high-efficiency, high color rendering LEDioc FLOOD ZEST floodlights were selected to illuminate the dirt track and wood-chipped areas, being mounted upon lighting columns around the outer perimeter of the course and also atop the spectator stands.
Featuring a design to suppress the brightness levels of their light emitting surface, the installed LEDioc FLOOD ZEST floodlights have been arranged so as to illuminate from behind in the direction of travel on the course, resulting in a lighting scheme with enhanced glare minimization; furthermore the combination of medium beam and wide beam models ensures that any unevenness is minimized as best possible in order to create a highly uniform and pleasing lit environment.
