Equipped with a range of facilities including a large arena, small gymnasium, halls for judo and kendo, training room, and running track, the Uwajima City Gymnasium is a multi-purpose venue widely appreciated and enjoyed by the citizens of Uwajima City as a hub of events and sporting activities - as such, it has hosted a wide variety of activities and events, from games of basketball, volleyball and handball, to university sumo tournaments and professional B League basketball matches of the Ehime Orange Vikings. While the main arena was temporarily closed due to part of its ceiling having collapsed following an earthquake in April 2024, repair works carried out by the city authorities saw the arena reopened in March 2025.

During these works the lighting was also updated to LED, with the introduction of LEDioc HIGH-BAY Γ Wireless Control type fixtures delivering and sustaining an average illuminance of 1500ℓx and enabling the venue to accommodate professional level basketball matches in the B League. Incorporating the Wi-CONNECTY tablet operated wireless controls system to control dimming operations via communication between a dedicated base unit and receivers installed in each fixture, every fixture in the scheme can be dimmed and switched on and off individually; a tablet based GUI (Graphical User Interface) function facilitates easier, on-screen control of individual or pattern-based lighting. There are currently seven pre-set dimming arrangements in place: 1500ℓx, 1000ℓx, 750ℓx, 500ℓx, and additionally 1000ℓx on the right side of the arena as seen from the entrance, 1000ℓx to the left, and full lights off; by using our proprietary wireless control switch, the three most frequently used patterns of (full lighting scheme at 1500ℓx; right side at 1000ℓx; left side at 1000ℓx) can be activated easily.

The updated LED lighting scheme has not only delivered energy savings, but also a high-quality lighting environment suitable for professional level sports. The fine-tuned settings and intuitive operability of the dimming system not only offer improved convenience for users and facilities managers, but also enhance the adaptability of the venue towards hosting a variety of events in future, as advanced lighting technologies bring added value to the Uwajima City Gymnasium, and its role in advancing the development of sports in the region.
