April, 2023

Situated in the Minami Ward of Saitama City, Urawa Jitsugyo Gakuen Junior and Senior High School is a private coeducational school offering an integrated education all the way through Junior and Senior High School.

Commemorating the 75th anniversary of its founding in 2021, the school marked the milestone through a number of initiatives which included updates to the school badge and official school colors, a renewal of uniforms, and additionally, the construction of two new school buildings. Following the completion in 2022 of Building No.2 which is primarily comprised of general classrooms, two years of construction works culminated with the completion in April 2023 of the new Building No.1 which will stand as a new symbol of the school. A mixed construction building combining reinforced concrete and a steel roof structure, the concept at the heart of the four storey building is that of a place of relaxation for students, with a canteen and cafe that can also be used as an after-school study space on the ground floor, a free study area, library and music room on the first floor, and sports studio on the second floor.

The sports studio hosts a variety of activities including physical education classes, sports clubs, and information sessions, and illuminance levels at other existing sports facilities at the site such as the sports hall and student hall were referred to during the planning process to determine a suitable light level for it; the 500ℓx illuminance level eventually decided upon as the standard, is delivered using LEDioc HIGH-BAY θ luminaires with diffused cover glass to create a lighting environment sensitive towards minimizing glare. With the large open space featuring a striking asymmetrical gabled roof, detailed lighting design plans were drawn up to factor in variations in surface mounting heights when calculating the positioning of the luminaires, in order to deliver a bright and pleasant lighting environment with high levels of uniformity in the widely used multipurpose sports studio.
