November, 2021

Opened December 2021 in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, JA Tsuruoka Dadacha Arena (Tsuruoka City Multipurpose Indoor Sports Arena) is a large, artificial turf equipped indoor sporting facility on a scale that makes it amongst the largest in the prefecture. The two-story reinforced concrete structure boasts a total floor area of approximately 5400m², with a spacious artificial turf field at ground level measuring 48m x 75m (3600m²) and able to accommodate 4 courts for regular and soft tennis, 2 futsal courts, or 8 gateball areas. Additionally, the upper level features a 230m lap walking course offering unbroken views over the ground level playing area. Seeking to establish the facility as one which will grow to be cherished by its residents, the City of Tsuruoka conducted a poll to find a pet name for the arena. The resulting choice of "Dadacha Arena" originates primarily from regional specialty the Dadacha Bean which is a type of edamame well-known across the country, and also from the location of the arena which is surrounded by the Dadacha Bean fields. With naming rights to the arena also being concluded with JA Tsuruoka (JA: Japan Agricultural Cooperatives), the facility has now come to be well known as the JA Tsuruoka Dadacha Arena.

A total of 56 LEDioc HIGH-BAY θ DALI compatible type high bay luminaires were installed to provide the lighting inside the arena, illuminating the futsal and tennis courts at a maintained horizontal plane average illuminance level of over 500ℓx to satisfy Competition Category II requirements. Furthermore a DALI control system has been incorporated into the scheme, which allows the lighting arrangements and output levels to be controlled to suit the varying requirements of different sports and activities. The ITACS-DS lighting control panel makes it possible to select from a choice of 10 different lighting arrangements through a simple switch system, creating a flexible and user-friendly lighting environment. In addition to providing ample illumination, the lighting scheme has been seen as managing to keep energy costs under control in comparison to other sports facilities in the city, successfully providing energy savings as well as a first-rate lighting environment.

Unaffected by external conditions, the all-weather facility offers the major benefit of being able to host a variety of sports and events all year round; it has been used widely since its opening, and it is hoped that it will continue to serve as a sporting and recreational hub to promote interaction amongst the city's residents.
