The north sports ground has an urban-center location, and is lit with light from LEDs, achieving large-scale power savings while creating a highly even and pleasant visual environment.
Gakushuin University has an excellent location just a 30-second walk from Mejiro Station on the JR Yamanote Line, has all of its undergraduate and postgraduate departments located within its Mejiro Campus, which boasts a site area of 180000m², and features the latest facilities coexisting alongside historical buildings within a lushly green environment. Gakushuin University carried out work to extend the fencing and resurface the artificial turf on its north sports ground, and at the same time carried out lighting renovations. The fence that had been previously installed had a height of 10m, but as a safety measure to prevent accidents from foul-balls, work was carried out to increase the height to 15m, alongside simultaneous work to resurface the entire surface of the artificial turf and renovate the lighting, aiming for an improved environment for the entire North sports ground. The lighting renovations saw the installation of high-power 560W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL LED floodlights in place of the previous 1000W metal halide lamps. A highly uniform lighting environment was created with a combination of wide-angle and ultra wide-angle 560W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL lights, aiming for increased brightness and achieving large-scale power savings. LEDs can be turned on instantaneously, and repeatedly so, and so are user-friendly in being able to be turned on or off as required. They are also highly rated for leading to further power savings. The sports ground is sometimes used from early in the morning until around 8:30 PM at night for a variety of purposes, including soccer, rugby, softball, and baseball, and with a high frequency of use, the change to LED is expected to deliver great results in terms of power conservation.

- The lighting renovations that were carried out in conjunction with the work to raise the height of the safety nets and resurface the artificial turf on the north sports ground involved an upgrade to LED lighting from the viewpoints of promoting power savings and maintenance management. The brightness of the existing lighting was measured, and based on a design policy of ensuring equivalent or greater brightness, high-power 560W LEDioc FLOOD DUELL LED floodlights were selected. They can handle a set brightness of 200ℓx, and in order to have uniform light for the entire sports ground, a combination of wide-angle and ultra wide-angle lights were used to enable the creation of a pleasant and highly uniform lighting environment. The lights have been installed by making use of the existing lighting poles and adding mounting frames for the LED floodlights, but in order for there to be no effect from the shadow of the wire at the top of the nets, a sample of the lighting fixtures was used for a trial run, after which detailed adjustments were made, including raising the installation position of the lighting fixtures by 50cm to create a light environment that keeps glare in check and has no irregularities.
