Connecting the eastern and western sides of Aomori City, the 1219m-long Aomori Bay Bridge features walkways to either side of the road, offering panoramic views of ships entering and leaving Aomori Port, and out over the Tsugaru Straits as they spread across the sea. Starting with the main supporting towers, the design of the bridge is based around triangular shapes in the form of the letter "A" - the initial letter of Aomori; it has continued to be a much-loved landmark of the city since its completion in 1994.

With 2025 marking the 400th anniversary of the opening of Aomori Port it is anticipated that Aomori Bay Bridge will be in the spotlight as a symbol of the bay area, and as such the prefectural authorities of Aomori decided to begin illuminating the main support towers in April 2025. Renovation works to update the installation were carried out prior to this whilst factoring in considerations regarding maintenance and the reduction of the environmental burden, with the adoption of full color-changing LEDioc FLOOD FULL-COLOR LED floodlights which are capable of smoothly reproducing a wide spectrum of colored light.

Thanks to the total controllability offered by the ITACS-LC lighting controls system, a nightscape of heightened charm is created through a wide variety of pre-programmed lighting displays in a rich spectrum of colors projected onto the bridge, from illuminations with gradient colors evoking the changing seasons of Aomori, to bespoke displays for special events such as the famed "Nebuta Festival" of Aomori. Due consideration has also been given to ensuring the lighting is not detrimental to road traffic safety, by implementing measures relating to the movement of light when the lights are turned on and off, and ensuring displays featuring movement are kept to a minimum.
