Tokyo Tower Illuminations: Infinity Diamond VeilMinato Ward, Tokyo
A lighting evolution for an emblem of the nightscape at the heart of capital
Add to My ListAn emblematic cornerstone of the Tokyo city nightscape, the illuminations of Tokyo Tower feature two different lighting arrangements - the regular Landmark Lighting arrangement, and the Infinity Diamond Veil arrangement. Commencing in November 2019 to mark the dawn of the Reiwa Era*, the new Infinity Diamond Veil scheme represents an evolution of the original Diamond Veil scheme which was introduced in 2008 to mark the 50th anniversary of the tower's opening.
An elegant vision for lights glistening delicately like diamonds saw the installation of 268 units of the bespoke LED luminaire BRILLIANT DIAMOND VEIL, with the ability to control each luminaire at each level individually opening up possibilities of displays utilizing and combining a palette of infinite color patterns with countless movement options. On the 9th and 10th of the opening month, a special program of celebratory illuminations to mark the Ascension of the new Emperor was carried out, taking inspiration from the imagery of the multi color of the traditional Japanese curtain. Complementing the program of 12 pre-determined colors assigned to represent each month, special events and occasions are also marked through displays which manifest designated concepts through an extensive palette of colors, providing an added flourish to the Tokyo nightscape. As an additional feature, each night both the DIAMOND TIARA luminaires installed at the upper part of the top deck and the DIAMOND CHOKER luminaires installed at the upper part of the main deck light up in a pure brilliant every hour.
