Traversing the City of Nagoya, the Horikawa River has been supporting the development of the city since the Edo* era. The City wished to use the medium of light to reimagine the historical spirit and warmth of the area, undertaking works to illuminate the waterfront areas around Nayabashi Bridge including the river dike and the bridge, with a view to further enhancing appeal and increasing activity. *Edo Era: 1603 - 1868

Work on the illuminations commenced in March 2021, upon completion of the river dike maintenance works covering the 160m section between Nishikibashi Bridge and Nayabashi Bridge. Centered around Nayabashi Bridge and the former Kato Company Building, LED lighting has been used to create a sentimental setting based on a lighting design concept of bringing "Contemporary Taisho" ambiance along the length of the Horikawa River. Custom-made LED luminaires have been used to illuminate the river dike, with an amber light reminiscent of the gas lighting that would have been in use during the Taisho* Era. Offering a greater depth and richness of color than incandescent lighting, the river dike is illuminated to great effect, benefiting also from the tasteful effect of the sparkling reflections of light on the water, as well as providing textured shade and giving the benefit of hiding any blemishes. *Taisho Era: 1912-1926

Augmenting the visual impact of the Nishikibashi Bridge which straddles an historical spot, the installation of color-changing LEDioc FLOOD FULL-COLOR floodlights allows for lighting displays in a variety of colors and formations to coordinate with different seasons and events. The very warm white (incandescent) color from LEDioc FLOOD NEO floodlights can be seen illuminating the former Kato Company Building along the river, lighting upwards from the bottom of the building and highlighting the features of the historical building in a striking manner. Elsewhere, the stage is set for a bright, bustling scene in the waterfront plaza thanks to the high color rendering LEDioc FLOOD NEO Vivid floodlights which have been installed close to the trees to help create an enchanting setting; by making them all a very warm white color, they remain in keeping with the surrounding environment and make for a highly cohesive lighting scheme.
