Installation date

March, 2023

Situated in Kawasaki Town, Shibata District, Miyagi Prefecture, the multi-purpose Kamafusa Dam not only provides mains water, but also water for irrigation, water for industrial use, and water for power generation for the City of Sendai and other towns and villages in the surrounding area, in addition to its role as flood defense infrastructure.

In March 2023, the Kamafusa Dam Management Office at the Tohoku Regional Development Bureau set about updating part of the embankment lighting to LED luminaires, also updating the lighting installations along the road and promenade running along the dam lake, with a view to improving safety for those using them at night and also creating new tourism resources for the area. Featuring a simple design, UNIS Stick Short LED landscape lighting were installed along the promenade, while LEDioc AREA D type LED solar lights, LEDioc ROAD street luminaires and LEDioc AREA TEND pole lights have also been installed at selected points to help provide a warm ambiance with their incandescent light. With the added benefit of facilitating feature illuminations such as those of the cherry blossom trees for a limited period during the cherry blossom season, the installation has been set up to cater for inbound visitors.

With regards the LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 250 LED floodlights surveying the embankment, their positioning and light distribution were factored into consideration so that they could also be used during times of water discharge. Furthermore, levels of brightness and glare have also been carefully adjusted as a result of in-depth light testing to determine their visual impact as viewed from the adjacent prefectural road. With the future addition of full color changing LED floodlights also under consideration, it is hoped that the site can eventually become a leading attraction within the prefecture.
