Situated at the heart of Nagaokakyo City, Hankyu Nagaokatenjin Station boasts not only direct connections to both Kyoto and Osaka, but also a desirable location in a verdant area steeped in history and culture; in March 2019 the City of Nagaokakyo formulated a maintenance plan for the area around it, with its core concept being that of "A busting locale with people at its heart" as it set out to create a livable neighborhood true to the bustling, historical spirit of Nagaokakyo - a place for people to gather and mingle, where anyone can enjoy a stroll at their leisure. For this project the opinions of many residents as well as those of the Nagaokatenjin Station Area Community Development Council were sought out and taken into consideration, as the aim of the station plaza area maintenance works is to create the "new face of a neighborhood where people can relax and interact".

In the station plaza area by the east gate of the station, benches, wooden decking, bamboo planting, and an artificial turf area taking inspiration from the "Nishiyama" mountain range of Nagaokakyo City, were all installed to create a park-like plaza that can serve as a meeting place for passengers as well as a place of relaxation for locals.

Mindful of the surrounding landscape, unis Flare and unis Stick Short LED pole top luminaires were selected to light the plaza area, with their incandescent color light illuminating the area with a warm, gentle glow. LEDioc Moisture-proof type LINE UNIT luminaires with milky white covers have also been installed under the benches to provide a pleasant light in keeping with the surroundings, in addition to a sense of security.
