  • The lighting columns which convey the retro feel of Koedo-Kawagoe and its enduring Edo era atmosphere have been retained and repainted, with the only change to them being the replacement of the light source with LEDioc LED LIGHT BULB.

  • The illumination of the shelters with the warm incandescent glow of LEDioc FLOOD NEO not only serves to create a point of interest for the station plaza area, but also helps to create a pleasant walking environment with a gentle lighting ambience.

  • Nighttime view of elevated walkway. The luminaire which is built into the bench has been retained and repainted, with its light source being changed to LEDioc LED LIGHT BULB.

  • In contrast to the warm incandescent light of the elevated pedestrian walkway, the pole-mounted LEDioc AREA ALIVIO covers the bus terminal area below in a cooler white light, maintaining brightness and heightening visibility.

  • Nighttime safety has been improved with the installation of LEDioc MULTILINE in pedestrian areas and LEDioc AREA mitis-B in road areas.

  • Installed along the roads heading towards the city from the bus terminal, columns mounted with super wide beam models of LEDioc FLOOD NEO provide light for the surrounding areas.

Connected both to the Tojo Line of Tobu Railways and the Kawagoe Line of JR (Japan Rail) East, Kawagoe Station is a busy terminal that serves high numbers of passengers.

With around 30 years having elapsed since construction of the East Gate Station Plaza was originally completed, the city embarked upon a number of safety-oriented improvement and maintenance works, such as reinforcement of earthquake resistance measures, and reapplication of paintworks; improvements to update the lighting installations to LED were also carried out as part of these works. A gateway to emblematic sites of Kawagoe such as its atmospheric historical streets and the famous Kashiya Yokocho ("Candy Alley"), the elevated pedestrian walkway is bathed in a warm, incandescent light; with the bus terminal area at ground level illuminated by cool white LED lighting, the scheme is designed to provide a marked visual contrast between the ground level and the walkway above.

Sheltering covers were also newly installed during the works, allowing pedestrians to stay dry even in the event of rain, as had already been the case with the West Gate Station Plaza. With compact LEDioc FLOOD NEO floodlights providing the lighting for these covered areas, the pedestrian walkway benefits from being illuminated softly under a gentle, indirect lighting arrangement. Additionally, with the LED street luminaire LEDioc AREA mitis-B installed in the road areas and LEDioc MULTILINE base lights installed in pedestrian areas, the LED fixtures used in this project have all been selected based on their appropriateness to the settings in which they are used. The updated station plaza is now illuminated by a bright and pleasant light that is contributing towards energy savings as a result, and the upgrade to LED lighting has been met with much positive feedback from users of the station who note how it appears lighter than it had been previously.
