Location

Tsuruoka Station is one of the stations on the JR East Uetsu Main Line in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture. It is a well-known station in the Shonai region, and was selected as one of the "100 Tohoku Stations" in 2002.

In Tsuruoka City, maintenance work was carried out on the Tsuruoka Station-Front Line for the purpose of improving access in the Tsuruoka Station area, improving the environment as a traffic node, and extending the service life of its facilities. The private-vehicle passenger drop-off lane was widened, and pedestrian passage shelters were added, and in conjunction with this maintenance work, the old lighting was upgraded to LED.

The conversion to LED saw the existing twin HID lamps replaced with LEDioc AREA QUALLIS type-G LED streetlamps, which are fixtures with an advanced design that enable an improved visual environment yet do not cost too much. Taking into consideration the visual environment for vehicles moving inside the traffic circle, the roadway has been given an average brightness of 10.5ℓx (average asphalt road surface brightness conversion: 0.7cd/m²), while the visual environment for the entire station-front plaza area has been improved by ensuring sufficient brightness for the pedestrian area. In addition, the lighting poles have been given a corrosion-resistant coating for their embedded bases, providing a durability enabling long-term use with peace-of-mind.
