Installation date

March, 2024(Seaside area), August, 2023(Station side area)

Seen as a gateway to the World Heritage Site of Miyajima which draws large numbers of domestic and international visitors alike, in April 2024 the Miyajimaguchi area of Hatsukaichi City saw the opening of the new Miyajimaguchi Shamoji Square. Positioned in a highly convenient location directly opposite Hiroshima Rail Miyajimaguchi Station and adjacent to Miyajimaguchi Passenger Ferry Terminal, the square provides an open green space from where views of Miyajima and the Seto Inland Sea can be enjoyed. Benches shaped like the wooden ladles which are a famed product of Miyajima have been positioned around an open green turf area to provide an area of relaxation where children are able to play safely; also hosting various events such as markets and concerts, the venue is widely enjoyed by many as a new hub of activity.

With the need for luminaires to blend harmoniously with their surroundings being a key consideration, a combination of unis Spot Polelight, unis Tall, and unis Stick Short LED luminaires, and LEDioc UNO spotlights were selected to illuminate this relaxing space where visitors can bask in the air of the Seto Inland Sea, and the warmth provided by their incandescent color has resulted in a softly illuminated space.

By night, the light of the unis Spot Polelight luminaires positioned around the seating benches illuminates to emboss the shape of ladle, creating a charming lit nighttime environment.
