Custom-made LED lighting fixtures with a modern classic design provide charming light for a station with a bright atmosphere that blends into the townscape

  • 30 units of custom-made LED lighting fixtures with a modern classic design have been installed on each of the platforms, which have been unified in earth colors, such as gray and green for the benches and olive for the steel frames (in the image of olive trees) that support the roof over the platforms.

Location

The Tokyu Corporation's Toyoko Line is a flagship line running from Shibuya to Yokohama with 21 stations and connecting popular cities such as Daikanyama, Jiyugaoka, Den-en-Chofu and Musashi-Kosugi.

Renovation work commenced on the Toyoko Line's Okurayama Station in December 2015, with the concept of "a station that shines in the city", and by the time the work was complete in December 2018, shed renovations, steel-frame painting, platform outer-wall refurbishment, bench installation, and designer lighting installation had all taken place. On the west side of Okurayama Station, there is a shopping street that has a sister-street relationship with Elm Street in Athens, Greece, and because it is lined with white buildings in the Greek style, earth colors such as white, brown and olive were used for the renovation in a unified bright design in order to blend in with the surrounding townscape.

For the lighting fixtures that were newly installed as designer lighting, 30 units of custom-made LED lighting fixtures with a modern classic design were installed on each of the platforms to match the post-renovation atmosphere. Selection of incandescent 12W LEDioc LED Light Bulb G LED lamps as light sources has made for lighting that takes both design and the environment into account. The lighting was installed after repeated testing of the balance between sizes of the lamps and the appearance as seen through the fixtures, and feedback from station users has been positive, with the station platforms now brightly illuminated with a calming light.
