Situated on a vast site surrounded by lush greenery and flora close to the famous beauty spot of the Sankeien Gardens in Yokohama, Honmoku Shimin Park is a venue furnished with an impressive array of facilities and attractions. As well as sporting facilities such as tennis courts, an athletic field and skateboarding area, the park also features a lawn area, dragonfly pond, steam locomotive (D51) exhibit, the Yokohama City Pottery Center, and the Shanghai - Yokohama Friendship Garden, making it a popular venue with local residents for sports and relaxation.

The athletic field within the site is a multi-purpose facility used across a variety of activities, including baseball, soccer, and rugby, and in March 2024 the municipal authorities of Yokohama undertook renovation works to convert its lighting installation to LED. With consideration for the surrounding verdant natural environment and the neighboring highways and residential areas, great importance was placed during the conversion to LED upon ensuring a comfortable playing environment whilst also restricting light spillage into the sky and surrounding areas. To meet these conditions, the city adopted the use of LED floodlights light pollution prevention type that deliver a lighting environment that is not only easy and comfortable to play in, but is also mindful of its surroundings. Through this renovation works, the advancement of both a high quality nighttime playing environment and energy conservation measures have been achieved.
