LED lighting upgrades deliver energy savings and an improved lighting environment at the large-scale indoor grounds on the shores of Lake Biwa
Add to My ListFeaturing a striking and beautiful triangular truss roof construction, Nagahama Dome is a large-scale prefectural indoor sports facility situated in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, designed and built as a venue where all manner of sports can be enjoyed even during poor weather conditions. The venue is utilized for a wide variety of purposes, from sporting activities such as tennis tournaments, Ground Golf tournaments, American Football and soccer, which make use of the artificial turf playing surface, to large-scale exhibitions and cultural events which make use of the vast open space which is unobstructed by pillars. As the representative indoor sports facility of the prefecture, it has also been selected as one of the host venues for the "SHIGA Shining National Sports and Para Sports!" event which will take place in 2025.
With a view to developing a long-term and overarching Net Zero society, prefectural authorities formulated the "Shiga Prefecture CO₂ Net Zero Society Promotion Plan" in March 2022. Within the eight-pillar framework of creating a society free of CO₂ and stimulating the Earth and the economy, one pillar was positioned "Leading the way as a Prefecture", covering a range of energy saving measures such as upgrading the lighting at all prefectural facilities to LED. With mercury vapor lighting having been in use at Nagahama Dome ever since its opening, it was one of the first sites in the prefecture to update the lighting to LED as part of the "Leading the way as a Prefecture" initiative, aiming to achieve energy savings, energy cost reductions and reductions in CO₂ emissions. The updates saw the installation of a combination of LEDioc FLOOD DUELL 420W type and LEDioc FLOOD SPOLART 130W type High-temperature-resistant type floodlights to directly replace the existing luminaires, delivering major energy savings whilst also maintaining illuminance levels matching and bettering what was in place.
Not only has the upgrade to LED lighting contributed greatly towards a CO₂ Net Zero future, it has also greatly improved the operability, efficiency, and lighting environment of the facility and had a positive impact on multiple levels; it is hoped that many people will come to enjoy the facility and experience its new lighting environment.
