Set within a spacious site of around 37 hectares, the Tochigi City General Sports Park features sporting facilities rated amongst the best in the prefecture, including a multipurpose sports hall, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a baseball ground and athletics track, in addition to its wide open green spaces. Welcoming around 600000 visitors annually, the venue is not only widely enjoyed as a place for sports and recreational activities, but also serves as a disaster evacuation site.

Set within the park, its tennis facility comprises 16 courts, of which 8 are furnished with lighting equipment. With a view to reducing its CO₂ emissions, energy consumption, and maintenance requirements, the City of Tochigi carried out lighting improvement works to update the installation at the tennis courts to LED in March 2024. The LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 700 LED floodlights which replaced the existing 1kW metal halide floodlights produce light output levels equivalent to 1500W metal halide lamps, helping to deliver both energy savings and increased illuminance levels.

As the first LED lighting installation used on an outdoor sports facility within the Tochigi City General Sports Park, the scheme is providing an optimal lit environment for tennis to be enjoyed in comfort beyond daylight hours at the much-used courts.
