Boasting a scale able to accommodate 63700 spectators (including 150 wheelchair seats) Saitama Stadium 2002 is the largest dedicated soccer stadium in Japan, and one of the largest in Asia. It was used as one of the main venues for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and is widely familiar to soccer fans as the home stadium for Soccer's J-League Urawa Red Diamonds (Urawa Reds), a venue for general competitions at the junior and senior high school levels, and as a stadium where many AFC Champions League and other international matches are held. An official decision has also been made to use it as one of the soccer venues for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Saitama Stadium 2002 has been proceeding with a sequential upgrade of its equipment, which was installed new roughly 18 years ago, and in March 2018 carried out work to change the lighting equipment illuminating the spectator seating to LED, installing LEDioc FLOOD DUELL lights in place of the existing HID floodlights. After keeping the number of lights the same and reusing the existing stands, carrying out wiring work to upgrade to LED floodlights has seen power consumption drop to half of what it previously was while ensuring a brightness equivalent to or greater than that from the previous lighting, which has contributed to significant power savings. Due to the work taking place at high elevations and involving the use of catwalks, safety was of paramount importance and care was taken for the work to be carried out with a high level of safety, with fall-prevention wires attached to the lighting fixtures.

The LED lighting is convenient in being able to be turned on instantaneously, and it brightly and comfortably lights the spectator seating that allows fans to enjoy soccer with a sense of presence and proximity to the pitch.
