about

Installation date

June, 2024

Opened June 2024 in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, the concrete Airys Skate Park Ota is one of the largest facilities of its type in the northern Kanto region and spans an area of approximately 3000m²; featuring three different zones - 'flat', 'street', and 'park' - users can enjoy skateboarding, inline skating, and BMX at the venue.

The facility was established with the aim of "Broadening the participation base for sporting activities through providing a place to enable casual participation in street sports", welcoming both enthusiasts and the children who represent the next generation of riders. The facility has attracted an even greater number of users than originally envisaged, with the number of registered users surpassing 1400 after around four months since opening, including some from as far afield as Aomori and Kyoto. Whilst the largest group of users is comprised of Elementary School students, the next largest groups represented are those in their forties and fifties, illustrating the appeal of the popular venue as one that can be enjoyed both by children and parents alike. With a view to the long-term operation of the facility, much consideration was given to the total costs, including initial construction costs as well as maintenance costs; mindful of the regular expenditure necessary for the repairs and upkeep of the facilities, the implementation of measures such as a self-entry management system have seen reductions in personnel costs. When selecting the fixtures with which the facilities would be illuminated by night, due consideration was similarly given to savings in cost, energy and maintenance; the LEDioc FLOOD AVANT class 400 LED floodlights with light pollution countermeasures selected for the project have delivered a comfortable lighting environment, mindful of minimizing light spillage into the surrounding areas.

Having already been enjoyed by a great number of visitors since its opening, there are plans for the venue to continue to be monitored and assessed periodically, planning the ongoing improvements that will allow Airys Skate Park Ota to live up to the continued cooperation and support.
