  • Full view of the fully illuminated stadium. The number of fixtures has been reduced from a total of 648 HID floodlights (1500W metal halide lamps) installed on six lighting towers, to a total of 360 LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 and class 600 LED floodlights, providing a high quality lighting environment by more than halving the total power consumption whilst still ensuring illuminance levels meeting and surpassing those required for hosting professional baseball matches.

  • LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 floodlights, installed on the lighting tower in a cross-aiming arrangement to reduce overlapping light and minimize glare.

  • View out over the field from the stands, where the game can be enjoyed in comfortable seats comparable in size to those of a Major League Baseball stadium.

  • View towards the scoreboard from home base.

  • Lighting tower as seen from third base. Glare is kept to a minimum, even from the line of sight for players.

  • The natural turf grounds on both the infield and outfield are lit with LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 floodlights, providing a highly uniform lighting environment.

  • Aerial view from above, of the stadium fully illuminated at night. The stadium is brightly lit by LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 floodlights, which restrict light spillage into the sky and surrounding areas, and design scheme is mindful of avoiding light pollution into the surrounding environment.

  • Nighttime view of the stadium, which features a variety of seating styles.

  • LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 floodlights use proprietary optical controls to suppress light spillage, restricting light leakage beyond the stadium whilst providing bright and comfortable illuminance levels within it.

  • DMX compatible LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 floodlights allow for pre-programmed lighting controls, enabling a wide variety of dramatic lighting effects (Stream: when the light moves in a flowing manner).

  • The lighting control panel allows for simple operation of lighting patterns via a touchscreen panel to suit varying applications.

  • The lighting control panel.

  • Daytime view of the stadium.

Opened in 2009, the Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium (MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima) is home to the professional baseball team Hiroshima Toyo Carp, and has been designed to be open in a northerly direction towards the JR (Japan Rail) station in order to provide the venue with a sense of openness, in addition to ventilation, and a sense of unity with the city. A rarity in Japan, the field is shaped asymmetrically, measuring 122m along the center field to the outfield fence, 101m along the left flank, and 100m along the right flank. With a capacity of around 33000, the stadium is equipped with a variety of seating options, including field-side seats, terraced seats, terraced "chill-out" seats, and party floors, allowing for a variety of viewing experiences; the proximity of the seats to the ground is another key feature, providing spectators with an up-close and intimate in-game experience.

The municipal authorities carried out renovation works during the off-season, which included the replacement of approximately 9200m² of natural turf on the field, and the conversion of the lighting installation to LED with a view to energy and maintenance saving, and completed in March 2025. In the process of converting to LED a lighting plan was drawn up with the aim of delivering a lighting environment to be optimal for all - players, spectators, local residents, and operators - reducing environmental impact through energy savings and the minimizing of works on the lighting towers. Centrally located at only around a 10 minute walk from JR Hiroshima Station, and with Shinkansen* tracks, commercial facilities, and residential areas in the vicinity, due consideration was required for any light pollution impact from the stadium; the Bespoke LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 selected for the project make use of proprietary optical control techniques to suppress light leakage into the sky and surrounding areas, which is a key cause of light pollution. Retaining and reusing the six existing lighting towers, and reducing the number of installed fixtures from the existing arrangement of 108 x HID floodlights per tower to 56 LED floodlights, a high quality lighting environment is delivered whilst significantly reducing power consumption and ensuring illuminance levels matching and surpassing the preceding scheme. Furthermore the use of a cross-aiming arrangement for the direction of the floodlights helps to avoid a light cluster, mindful of minimizing the sense of glare that can be detrimental to play.

The lighting control system has been updated to ITACS-LC, which offers a totality of control over the stadium's lighting and enables intuitive operation of dimming patterns via a graphics based touchscreen panel to suit different applications; remote operation via tablets and PCs is also supported, contributing to more efficient lighting management. Additionally the LEDioc FLOOD AVANT Light Pollution Prevention type class 1500 floodlights which deliver competition-standard lighting at the stadium can also be used to produce lighting effects, while LEDioc FLOOD FULL-COLOR floodlights and LAXIS laser beam floodlights are used to provide a variety of lighting effects to further enhance and accentuate the excitement of the matchday experience. With light that brightly and comfortably illuminates the ground, and light to accentuate dramatic scenes, the resulting high-quality lighting environment is one befitting a stadium that coexists with its city.
