Chiba Central Sports Center is a highly well-equipped prefectural city park which boasts an impressive 12 different facilities including a sports sciences center, softball ground, gymnasium, soccer and rugby pitches. As one of the core sporting venues of Chiba prefecture, the site plays host to events and competitions of all levels, from prefectural level athletics meets, to national-level tournaments, and all the way through to international competition - as such it has been equipped with suitably high level facilities.
Steeped in a rich history as a spiritual home of high school baseball in Chiba, the baseball ground has long been a cherished symbol of the prefecture; following extensive improvement works carried out on the site from 2017 to 2019, the installation of lighting columns in 2021 saw the completion of the facility's lighting scheme. The project saw the installation of a total of six columns, with two in the right field, two in the left field, and two behind the back net; the high-efficiency and high color rendering LEDioc FLOOD ZEST floodlights selected to provide the lighting create a lit environment offering high levels of uniformity as well as contributing towards energy savings. Design illuminance for the scheme has been set at 1000ℓx for the infield and 750ℓx for the outfield areas, and with careful consideration given to a variety of potential applications, the scheme satisfies not only the criteria of athletic category I defined by JIS, Japan Industrial standard but through lighting controls also Categories II and III. In addition to the deployment of LEDioc FLOOD ZEST floodlights to create a lit environment that restrains brightness, the implementation of a cross-aiming layout avoids the creation of concentrated light clusters that be detrimental to play.
Through the introduction of lighting, the ground is now also able to host games at night, and with its increased convenience and safety it is expected to become the stage upon which the prefecture's high-school baseball teams are able to pursue their dreams of reaching national competition; the hope is that it can act as a further catalyst for the popularization and progress of sports in Chiba Prefecture.
