Transforming in sync with its soundtrack, the lighting display further accentuates the splendor of the Thirty-Three Kannon Bodhisattvas and King Enma.

The main temple gate of Kaigenji Temple has a long history dating back to its founding in the Muromachi period. While paper lanterns provide the ambient brightness, feature lighting on the gate itself is provided by LEDioc UNO floodlights, and by LEDioc LED EYELAMP on the temple walls; the inviting aesthetic of Kaigenji Temple is also added to by LED Moisture-Proof Linear Units providing general illumination across the surrounding walls.
Established in 2006 and now welcoming an average of 100000 visitors per year, the "Hakata Old Town Light Walk" event aims to provide an opportunity to appreciate the charm of the historical landscape, through the illumination of temples and gardens, with the more historically significant temples enjoying their own specialized lighting schemes.
Forest of Light was the theme adopted for the 2025 edition, with 18 lighting production companies collaborating together under the direction of lighting designer Miki Matsushita to deliver a magical lighting scheme across various temples and gardens; IWASAKI Electric was entrusted with the illuminations for Kaigenji Temple. Situated in the heart of the Hakata district in central Fukuoka City, Kaigenji Temple has been in place for around 630 years, dating back to the Muromachi period. In addition to Amitabha Buddha who is enshrined as the principal icon of worship at the temple, "Enma-Sama" (King Yama, judge of the afterlife; revered as a being that guides people to follow the right path), and "Kannon-Sama" (Thirty-Three Kannon Bodhisattva; created so that one visit can bestow blessings equivalent to visiting the thirty-three Kannon pilgrimage sites of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage) are also enshrined there.
The display for this event saw a blend of light and sound combining to create the imagery of a fantastical world woven from delicate patterns of light in vibrant blue unfolding beneath the sea, and mystical encounters with King Yama and the Thirty-Three Kannon Bodhisattvas appearing within. The Link-Core DMX controls system was utilized in the implementation of the scheme, allowing for sound and lighting to be controlled and synchronized seamlessly. With the splendor of the "Forest of Light" display draped across it, the setting of Kaigenji Temple - which references the sea in its name - was widely enjoyed by the many visitors it welcomed throughout the event.
