Illuminations of the Tainai River Grand FountainTainai City, Niigata Prefecture
Large fountain illuminations create a whimsical waterfront setting through a kaleidoscopic array of color
Add to My ListSituated on the Tainai River which originates from Mount Fujijuro of the Iide Mountain Range in Shimoarazawa, Tainai City, Niigata Prefecture, the Tainai River Grand Fountain is one of the largest fountains in the prefecture, with water shooting up to a height of around 50m to create a refreshing waterside setting through various changes in shape and movement of the water. Installed to provide a landmark for the region and promote the image of the Tainai River as one awash with clear, abundant water, the fountain is also illuminated at night to generate an attraction different from daytime.
It was decided by the Tainai City authorities that replacement works on the lighting equipment would be carried out, and in March 2024 the lighting scheme for the fountain illuminations were upgraded to LED. The switch to LED necessitated factoring into consideration a number of stringent requirements such as waterproofing, the risk of water ingress, and secondary wiring, which resulted in the proposal that the fountain be illuminated from the opposite bank with full color-changing LEDioc FLOOD FULL-COLOR 240W type full-color LED floodlights, which are capable of faithfully reproducing a broad spectrum of colors. The illuminations have been designed in four different arrangements to complement the fountain program settings, with arrangements representing "budding", "growth", "blossoming", and "fruition". With the dynamic and ever changing expressions of light and water created by each program, visitors are able to absorb the colorful and fantastical scenery of this regional attraction.
