Changing road lights to LED achieves large-scale power savings while also comfortably lighting a bustling road
Add to My ListMinamimachi Street runs from east to west in the center of Sendai City, and is one of the main roads at the west exit of JR Sendai Station. It is used by many people every day, and is also the location of a variety of events, including the Sendai Tanabata Festival, which is Japan's biggest Tanabata festival, making it a site of busy daily activity. Approximately 40 units of 2-lamp pedestrian-walkway lighting poles had been installed along the road since 1988, but the road lighting equipment was upgraded to LED this time, with LEDioc ROAD LED roadlights being selected. The existing pole designs have been used, but with custom-made adapters constructed at their ends to change the previous rectangular shapes to circular ones, preserving the tasteful scenery of the Japanese style lighting poles while making the change to LED by swapping just the fittings. The bustling road is comfortably lit at night with LED light, achieving a reduced burden on the environment along with reduced maintenance costs.
