about

Installation date

January, 2023

Aiming to reduce the costs it incurs from the installation and maintenance of lighting infrastructure, whilst at the same time also contributing towards combatting global warming through reducing consumption and CO₂ emissions, the City of Shiraoka has entered into an ESCO agreement which in January 2023 saw the whole replacement with LED of 3300 units of lighting across security lighting, street lighting, park lighting, sports facility lighting and school sports hall lighting under its management. Iwasaki Electric Co., Ltd. has taken on the management and maintenance of the scheme under the terms of a ten year agreement.

The incorporation of smart lighting capabilities to cover the street and parks lighting has enabled ON/OFF switching remotely, dimming their output levels, and verifying their operational status, all via a central management system (CMS); using the CMS to continually optimize the lighting environment throughout its operation and maintenance, the scheme is able to make yet further contributions towards energy savings. It is forecast that through the implementation of this ESCO project, the City of Shiraoka can expect a 70% reduction in CO₂ emissions and 60% reduction in energy consumption, resulting in savings of around 170 million Yen.

* Energy Service Company (abbr. ESCO) is a scheme that implements projects to reduce energy costs, covering the costs of the renovation works from within the savings achieved.
