Location

Located at the southernmost tip of Hokkaido, Matsumae prospered under the Matsumae Han as Japan's northernmost castle town, and is famous for Matsumae Castle, which is a symbol of the town, and also as one of the nation's prominent locations to view cherry blossoms. The center of the town has been designated as part of the "Model Areas Establishing Townscapes That Make Use of History" Strategic Project, part of Hokkaido's medium-term comprehensive plan, and the town has formulated an improvement plan and is proceeding with urban development that makes use of its historical legacy and traditional culture drawcards such as Matsumae Castle. Matsumae Harbor Line (Joka Dori Street) is lined with buildings with white walls and black roofs, forming a townscape where you can taste the atmosphere of an Edoperiod castle town, and is an area with spreading, elegant scenery. Electrical wiring and the like have been moved underground, and LED lighting fixtures with designs in harmony with the now-cleaner roadsides have been installed. LEDioc Road have been used for the roadways, while Japanese-style lamps with 87W LEDioc LED Light Bulb as light sources have been used for the pedestrian areas,safely and comfortably lighting the townscape in environmentally considerate and power-saving light.
