Area Lighting Park Lighting
Takachiho Gorge PromenadeTakachiho Town, Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture
Using light mindful of surrounding scenery to safely illuminate the promenade leading to the popular night sightseeing spot that is the Takachiho Gorge illumination
Add to My ListThe town of Takachiho is located approximately in the central part of Kyushu's mountainous region, in the northwestern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, and the many people visiting it every year make it one of Miyazaki's leading tourist destinations. Especially popular in the area is Takachiho Gorge, one of the most scenic spots in Japan, where you can fully enjoy the charm of Takachiho while taking a stroll along its promenade. Takachiho Gorge is illuminated every summer, but from 2019 year-round illumination (except during firefly season) commenced. Although there are some changes depending on the season, the illumination is basically from sunset to 22:00, and is receiving positive feedback as a spot where you can see some magical scenery that differs from that on offer during the day.
Takachiho Town Hall carried out construction work to upgrade the lighting equipment in the area around Takachiho Gorge, newly installing approach lights and solar LED tiles that illuminate where to walk along the promenade in order to ensure safety at night. The approach lights use panels designed with the motifs of "Takachiho Gorge's Manai Waterfall" and "Kunimigaoka's Sea of Clouds" on their fronts, and highly efficient LEDioc LED LIGHT BULB G LED lamps have been used as the light sources. In addition, LEDioc FLOOD NEO LED floodlights were installed housed in custom-made boxes to illuminate the stone monument proclaiming Takachiho Gorge a place of scenic beauty. The lamps for the streetlamps near the entrance to the promenade and on the path leading to the platform for viewing the waterfall also had their lamps replaced, with LEDioc AREA TOLICA-L LED pole lights being used, and some provided with optional shades depending on their location after taking light-bleed into account. In the parking lot, LED solar lights were installed to ensure the required brightness for crime-prevention.
In putting this lighting in place, the consensus is that by aiming to ensure safety at night while also selecting fixtures taking into account the scenery rich with abundant nature and avoiding any impact on the illumination of the waterfall, and using a uniform incandescent color for the light sources, it was possible to create the effect of a gentle atmosphere that harmonizes with the surrounding environment.
