Osaka University of Economics is a private university with its headquarters (Osumi Campus) in Higashi-Yodogawa-ward, Osaka. One of its advantages is its position in the center of Osaka as an "Urban-complex University" blessed with excellent access to transportation. The Settsu Campus, which takes about 10 minutes from the Osumi Campus on a university bus, has a full range of sports facilities, including a clubhouse equipped with a Japanese archery range and training rooms, soccer fields, an artificial-turf sports ground, which is used for athletics competitions, and tennis courts.

In August 2018, Osaka University of Economics carried out renovation work on the sports ground night-game lighting equipment, replacing the existing mercury lamps with 560W type LEDioc FLOOD DUELL high-power LED floodlights. The sports ground is used for lessons and sports activities and sees a lot of use from the evening onwards, so the change from the existing lighting to LED lights was aimed at increasing safety there by providing a good lighting environment. It was also carried out from a power-conservation standpoint, and as a result of the prohibitions on the production of mercury lamps that will be in place from 2021 due the Minamata Convention on Mercury. 30 units of 560W type LEDioc FLOOD DUELL lights, which satisfy the JIS competition category III (soccer), were installed in place of the 48 mercury lamps that were previously installed, achieving significant power savings while ensuring a brightness equivalent to or greater than that from the previous lighting.

With sufficient consideration having been given to the pole heights and positions, the consensus is that a more effective and rational lighting design has enabled the creation of a good lighting environment that suppresses glare.
