The Peace Memorial Park which is situated in the center of Hiroshima City is a municipal park which was built as a symbol of prayer both to the victims of the atomic bomb, and for a lasting World Peace. Within the grounds of the park can be found the World Heritage Site Atomic Bomb Dome, as well as the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, the Memorial Cenotaph for the Atomic Bomb Victims, the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, the International Conference Center Hiroshima, a number of monuments built upon a desire for peace, and the symbolic Chinese Parasol Tree that was exposed to the bomb. Located behind the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is the Fountain of Prayer, built in 1964 to honor the spirits of the atomic bomb victims who perished whilst saying "water, please, water". Positioned in a straight line of both the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Memorial Cenotaph for the Atomic Bomb Victims, the oval feature measures 27m×19m, every day shooting 11 tons of water to a height of up to 10 meters through its 567 fountains.

In November 2023 the City of Hiroshima carried out electrical repair works at the fountain, updating its lighting installation to LED in the process. Advanced as a project to contribute towards energy savings and also benefit from reduced maintenance requirements through long product life, the existing lighting installation was replaced with 114 units of LEDioc Underwater use luminaires 40W type. In updating the installation to LED the scheme was designed to blend harmoniously with the other lighting installations across the park, with a calming incandescent color chosen for the new luminaires so as not to disrupt the existing ambiance.

The illuminations operate from sunset to 8PM, and with the updated LED scheme managing to remain faithful to the ambiance of existing installation, the serenity of the light works to project a warm and rich environment.
