Illuminated "NIIGATA" sign brings a splash of color to the station-front scenery at night

Location

Planned to coincide with the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, a large "NIIGATA" sign was newly erected in the station plaza area by the Bandai Gate of Niigata Station in July 2021 as a landmark to create liveliness and welcome visitors to the area. Adorned with a lighting display at night to give the city an additional charm which differs from its daytime scenery, the prominent "NIIGATA" sign is situated on the central reservation of the Higashiodori road between Bandai Bridge and Niigata Station, a land gateway to Niigata.

Providing the vivid lighting display for the "NIIGATA" sign is a system comprising full-spectrum color changing LEDioc FLOOD NEO FULL-COLOR DALI compatible type floodlights, operated with the full-spectrum ITACS-DS COLOR Pro DALI control panel.

Following a regular seasonal schedule with displays in white from January to March, in green from April to June, in blue from July to September, and in orange from October to December, the scheme is also capable of producing varied displays to mark an array of events and occasions, bringing a splash of color to the nightscape around the station area; one notable example being the special lighting display which ran for the duration of the recent 2021 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, where each of the seven letters were illuminated in a rainbow colored scheme by the seven floodlights facing it.
