Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Rest Area) Hitachiota opened in July of last year in Ibaraki Prefecture's Hitachiota City, alongside the National Route 349 Bypass. The facility is a combined-type hub for interaction established with the aim of encouraging regional industry and revitalizing the local area. It has a lot area of 2.2ha, a facility area of 1555.30m², and features a large parking area with parking for 208 regular vehicles, 14 large vehicles, and 3 drivers with disabilities. It serves to communicate the appeal of Hitachiota City, and as a place where people can gather and interact, and it can also fulfill the role of an evacuation spot in times of disaster and function as a base for disaster recovery activities. It has a full range of facilities, including an area selling local produce, a restaurant, a food court, an event plaza, a children's plaza, and a tomato greenhouse offering a hands-on picking experience, and also has attached restrooms and a convenience store. LEDs have been used for the facility lighting from the viewpoint of power savings, and LED lighting has also been used for the lighting for the facility's pedestrian walkways and parking area. LEDioc AREA type-D streetlights have been used for the outdoor road lighting, as they feature a ring-shaped design that makes use of the strengths of LED for omnidirectional light distribution. Furthermore, in order to preserve the daytime scenery, lighting equipment has not been erected along the inner range of the spacious parking area; instead, the entire area is lit with 80W LEDioc FLOOD BLITZ floodlights on 10m concrete poles from the outer periphery, which makes for a less cluttered space, and the consensus is that the creation of a safe and comfortable lighting environment has been enabled through sufficient consideration of lighting fixture selection and arrangement.
