  • The outdoor lights with 72W LEDioc LED Light Bulbs as light sources light the roads and garden paths, achieving increased brightness and power savings while leaving the campus atmosphere unchanged.

  • The area around the seminar building at night. The courtyard is lit with 124W LEDioc LED Light Bulbs, which are equivalent to 300W mercury lamps, promoting power savings while creating a bright and safe lighting environment at night.

  • The high-performance LEDioc LED Light Bulbs turned on. The lighting fixtures and lighting poles have a salt-resistant coating.

  • The campus tower-a symbol of the university.

March, 2016

Nihon Fukushi University is a private university located in the southern part of Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture. It is the longest operating 4-year social welfare university, with 7 undergraduate departments and graduate schools on 4 campuses. An additional undergraduate department will be added in FY 2017, taking the number of undergraduate and graduate students at the university to 12000 people. The outdoor lights at Nihon Fukushi University's Mihama Campus had deteriorated due to age, and so work was carried out in March of 2016 to change them to LED in order to promote power savings. In selecting the LED lighting fixtures, attention was paid to keeping the design for the existing outdoor lights while enabling the change to LED, so a combination of pole lights with almost the exact same design as the existing outdoor lights and LEDioc LED Light Bulbs was used. Of particular note in their selection for use was the fact that LEDioc LED Light Bulbs differ from integrated LED lighting fixtures in that they are high-output and yet any upgrades to them can be completed by simply changing the lamps and stabilizers, so not much work would be required to upgrade them 10 years in the future. The outdoor lights were installed to provide appropriate brightness depending on location, with 72W lights (equivalent to 200W mercury lamps) installed for the garden paths facing the roads, and 124W lights (equivalent to 300W mercury lamps) installed for the courtyards. There has been a comparative improvement in brightness, with a particularly favorable response due to the improved brightness around the entrances and exits to the parking areas, which has in turn improved security through greater safety. Furthermore, due to its green-woodland location, the Mihama Campus is home to a great many insects, but the LED lights don't attract many, because they produce hardly any long-wave ultraviolet rays, and so feedback in terms of cleaning has also been positive. The consensus is that power savings and an improved sense of brightness have been able to be achieved without changing the atmosphere of the campus.
