Delivering light for safety and comfort with explosion-proof LED luminaires, at a hazardous materials warehouse opened in a prime location
Add to My ListHeadquartered in Nishi-ku, Osaka City, Fujiwara Logistics Co., Ltd. is an all-encompassing international logistics company with a history spanning 90 years since its founding. A provider of services ranging from entry and exit procedures at port with associated ground based connections in October 2024 the company opened the Taisho Chemical Center - the first hazardous materials warehouse in the Taisho Ward of Osaka City. Taking advantage of its site designated as an industrial zone, the new center was opened following the deterioration of the previous steel warehouse, having been rebuilt to specifications able to meet the growing demand for hazardous materials processing. The site of the Taisho Chemical Center spans an area of 11524.8m² with the total warehouse area covering 3974.8m², comprising four buildings: Warehouses A, B, and C which operate at room temperature, and Warehouse D which operates at a fixed constant temperature that can be set at between 5°C and 20°C. Each warehouse mainly handles petroleum products within Category 4, and also Category 1 and Category 5 hazardous materials under the Fire Service Act. Benefiting both from its convenient location close to the Port of Osaka and container yards, and from its added function as a bonded warehouse, the site presents a one-stop solution for logistics services, offering services including container handling and picking for import and export cargo, as well as onward transport to users.
To provide the lighting in the warehouse, LEDioc EX DIO Z1 explosion-proof LED high-bay fixtures were selected. The previous warehouse lighting scheme saw a large number of lighting fixtures mainly running mercury vapor lamps installed, but over time it became ever more difficult to maintain and ensure sufficient illuminance levels; by contrast the new scheme provides ample brightness and delivering a lighting environment where work can be carried out safely with a smaller number of LED luminaires spaced further apart. The ability of LED lighting to be switched on and off instantly provides ease of use, as well as contributing towards energy conservation and reducing running costs. During a well-attended site tour for other companies in the same industry which was conducted following completion, the brightness levels inside the warehouse were indeed noted and well received.
The Taisho Chemical Center is equipped with four hazardous materials warehouses, each with a ceiling height of at least 3m, and 5m on average; the need to illuminate such tall spaces saw the selection and installation of explosion-proof LEDioc EX DIO Z1 high-bay lighting fixtures. Compact, lightweight, and offering excellent energy-saving performance, the luminaires are also suited to lighting the fixed temperature warehouses, where temperatures are set at between 5°C and 20°C. Additionally, as the lighting fixtures are directly mounted on the structural beams of the steel-framed and slightly angled roof, selecting a fixture with adjustable installation angles made for an easier installation process and helped to ensure an average illuminance of 200ℓx for the whole warehouses. With regards explosion-proof LED luminaires, previous use of and familiarity with the products of Iwasaki Electric Co., Ltd. conferred confidence in their quality. For the route lighting which serves to provide light for passing vehicles by night, the specification of wall-mountable fixtures to deliver an average illuminance of 10ℓx saw the installation of super-wide-angle LEDioc FLOOD NEO class 60 floodlights.
